This class is structured so that you must begin your Final Project (TEDeducational Talk) (see below) early in the class and make progress in a timely fashion. Therefore, in preparation for this Final Project, we will be assigning a series of TED Talks, for you to watch and prepare a short report back write-up.

When you watch the TED talks, please fill out the report back form while watching. The report back form will be uploaded to iLearn. In order to receive a passing grade your assignment MUST include all answers in Part I and Part II of the assignment below.

PART I. Overview & Main Points of TED Talks

Answer the following:   What is the background of the speaker and how they are involved with their topic? (3 Points)What are the main points of the TED Talk? (3 Points)What are the verbal and nonverbal elements that made the TED Talk good? Verbal elements = speaking voice, tone, speed, jokes, etc. Nonverbal elements = body language, posture, hand gestures, pacing, illustrations, graphs.  (3 Points)What is the dominant narrative and the counter-narrative? (3 Points)Dominant narrative = can be used to describe the lens in which history is told by the perspective of the dominant culture.  Counter narrative = can be used to describe the lens in which history is told by the perspective of people who have been historically oppressed or marginalized. Usually this is the main narrative the speaker is shedding light on or in some cases arguing for and often highlights the complexities of an argument. Why should this TED Talk matter or be something we should care about? (3 Points)
