Air transportation and shipping is one of the most reliable modes of transport especially for shippers who engage in business of perishable goods. It is also one of the safest mode of transport as compared to road and even rail. There are however many challenges facing air transportation carriers and shippers (Mangan, Lalwani & Lalwani, 2016). One such challenge is the skyrocketing fuel prices. According to Seattle Air Cargo Management Group, the average cost of a gallon of jet fuel has almost doubled making air transport very expensive.
Looming security threats are also a major challenge for this mode of transport. There are so many terrorist groups whose sophistication is a threat to the aviation industry. Inspection of every cargo may not suffice to eradicate this threat either.
